Sermon: Dressed to Impress, Luke 1: 68-79

12/6/2009

You know our presence in a group makes an impression. The red carpet is scrutinized by Hollywood watchers anytime some big concocted award show is held. The dresses to die for and those that make us die are determined. “The style speaks to the person,” the experts tell us. “Dress for the job you want to have,” the self-help folks advise. The message is clear. My dress (fashion) leaves an impression. We even understand that as “normal” folks in Madison. We tell our boys, “tuck your shirt in and have some pride.” However, our fashion decisions only tell a surface story about our lives. It was said about Jesus that He was a teacher who taught with an authority like no one had ever heard or seen. He was filled with the Holy Spirit and that anointing was obvious to everyone in His presence. We are to be Charismatic in the sense that we should walk in the fullness of His anointing with His words on our lips. I think that kind of life is eternally impressive. I hope to see you Sunday.
