Being Contagious

4/29/2007

Somebody related this funny story about the marketing of the holy land these days.  While on a guided tour of the Holy Land the “guide” told the passengers on the bus time and time again that shepherd’s never drove their sheep like cattle but always walked in front, leading them.

As the bus came around a curve they looked out the window and saw a guy driving a herd of sheep. The tour guide, not to be outdone, stopped the bus. He went over and had an extended conversation with the man driving the sheep.

He returned to the bus with a triumph smile on his face as he announced to the tourists, “He’s not the shepherd. He’s the butcher!”

Oh my goodness, I think I met that same tour guide at the “Lost Sea” one afternoon.  We are called to be authentic and thus contagious.  Listen, we belong to a good shepherd who lays down his life for the sheep.  He provides us safety and provision.  The news of our good shepherd is worth sharing with any lost sheep.  We don’t have to contrive winning ways.  Just be the real deal and share the real shepherd.

I also want to again welcome Kevin and Kristyn Turney to our church.  We will be kicking off our youth service this Sunday night, April 29 at 6:30 p.m. We will be hosting a local praise band.  You will not want to miss it. They bring a love for Christ and our students to their ministry and will impact lives.  Let’s get behind them as they attempt lead us in creative student ministries.

Finally, we will be introducing Sallye Rowe to you as she has agreed to become our minister to Children starting June 1.  Sallye is now organizing and planning.  Please pray for her as she brings her giftedness in education to our ministry.  Please plan to help her and all our volunteers as we hope to bring life to the children in this community.
