Sermon: Dumb and Dumber, Jeremiah 4:22

10/7/2007

I hope your having a great week.  I have spent the last couple of weeks with the subject of sin.  I hope that it helps us to gain strength by leaning upon the mercy and grace of God.  This week I want to continue the subject with a message on the Foolishness of sin in hopes of equipping you to resist temptations and make wise decisions as a follower of Christ.  The foolish choice of sin reminds me of a story I read, Deputy Dave Wagner had just finished booking a suspect at the Marion County, Oregon, jail on October 2 when he heard a report over the radio that a stolen pickup truck had been spotted in northeast Salem. He decided that he would check it out. He didn’t have to go very far. In the parking lot of the jail two women sat in the stolen Toyota truck. They had come to visit a boyfriend. Brilliant! The deputies said that the women had 21 grams of methamphetamine, scales, and packaging material in the truck along with them.  We laugh, but I ask you, is that any more foolish than purposely disobeying the word of God?  Would you go build a house on a sand dune?  Yet, we would live our lives following after the passions of the flesh.  Join me Sunday as I share a message on the subject.
