The Chosen Ones; Ephesians 1: 3-10

1/13/2008

Well, I hope you enjoy my newsletter for this week since I sent it last week by accident.  I look forward to spending time in Ephesians with you during the season of Epiphany.

It is a little easier for me to characterize our chosen-ness in Christ as, “picked for a purpose.” It helps me to realize Paul’s intent in Ephesians.  He lifts up our calling and blessing in Christ as oppose to any superiority.  We all need to be reminded we are chosen ones, but maybe we need to emphasize again that our blessing in Christ to be holy and without blame before God is God’s work in Christ and can be uncomfortable.  It is a work that must be met with desire and faith.  I remember hearing a story told by a Nazarene Evangelist named “Bud” Robinson.  He said God had put him in a butter churn.  In a churn, the more you churn the more impurities (skimming) rise to top to be removed.  “Lord God,” he exclaimed, “I’m go’en to skimm’ens.”  “Yea bud, but what’s left I can use,” the Lord said to his heart.  It’s not easy being picked for holiness, but it is God’s blessing.
