Conversation: Woman at the Well, John 4: 7-149/14/2008 This week we continue our theme of being born again and entering a vital and personal relationship with Christ. One of the most interesting figures of the Civil War was a small courageous young lady name Clara Barton. She attended the wounded and was so close to the battle field at Antietam that her dress was found to have a bullet hole in it. She went on to found the Red Cross. During the Spanish-American War, she was overseeing the work of the Red Cross in Cuba. One day Colonel Theodore Roosevelt came to her; he wanted to buy food for his sick and wounded Rough Riders. But she refused to sell him any. Roosevelt was confused. His men needed the help and he was prepared to pay out of his own pocket. When he asked someone why he could not buy the supplies, they replied, "Colonel, just ask for it!" Then he understood--the provisions were not for sale. He only had to ask. The provisions were free. One of the greatest hindrances to a vital relationship with Christ is the notion that I have to earn it. We can’t earn what he has to offer. It is ours through grace by faith in Jesus Christ. Have you come to the place of complete trust in Christ alone?
See You Sunday!
