Giving is Better than Getting; Acts 20:25

2/8/2009

We all know how legends are…they're legends.  You may know the story told about the beggar by the roadside who asked for money from Alexander the Great. The man had no claim upon the ruler, no right even to lift a hand to him. The story says he threw him several gold coins. An aid curious at his generosity commented, "Sir, copper coins would adequately meet a beggar's need. Why give him gold?" Alexander responded in royal fashion, "Copper coins would suit the beggar's need, but gold coins suit my giving."  That’s pretty good as legends go.  I hope we all consider our best offering as we give to eternal things.  All I have and all I will ever be is a reflection of God’s grace in my life.  I am the caretaker of the vineyard he has put me in.  Therefore, what proportion of what I have is a representation of my gratitude toward Christ.
