Choosing the Good Thing; Malachi 1:6-9; 3:6-10

Upon first reading Malachi you might be impressed with the harshness of the prophet’s words to Israel, especially to the clergy.  Their issues were related to love, the priority of love.  What do I love most?  What do I love first, if you will?  What you find in reading the prophet is that while the folks had learned to love God in lesser ways, God has an unchanging love for them.  He is not happy, but His love is steadfast.  Tithing is best understood in the context of love and priority, not law keeping.  It is an action that teaches our hearts about loving God who loves us greatly.  The Hebrew way is that actions teach the mind and heart.  The Greeks believed the mind teaches actions.  We have the Greek part down, I want to challenge you to actions that teach thought and love.  Tithing is our gift, not God’s.  Think it over and I will see you Sunday.
